Best Air-Integrated Dive Computers

What Air Integration Does

An air-integrated (AI) dive computer receives your tank pressure wirelessly from a transmitter screwed into your regulator's first-stage high-pressure port. Instead of checking a separate console SPG gauge, you read your remaining air, breathing rate, and gas time remaining (GTR) directly on your wrist. GTR is particularly useful — it estimates how many minutes of air you have left based on your current consumption and depth, dynamically updating as conditions change.

Air integration is convenient, not essential. Many experienced divers still carry a console SPG as a mechanical backup even when using AI, and some prefer the simplicity of a non-AI computer plus SPG. But for streamlined diving and at-a-glance air monitoring, AI is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade.

Best AI for Recreational Divers: Shearwater Peregrine TX + Swift

The Peregrine TX is the same proven Peregrine — 2.2-inch color LCD, Bühlmann with GF, 30+ hours of battery — with air-integration hardware built in. Pair it with the Shearwater Swift transmitter and you have a complete AI setup with the best recreational display in the business. The Swift sends tank pressure and calculates GTR directly on your screen.

Sends tank pressure and GTR to any AI-ready Shearwater. Quick LED battery check pre-dive.

Best AI for Technical Divers: Shearwater Perdix 2 + Swift

The Perdix 2 supports up to two Swift transmitters simultaneously — one for each stage bottle. Combined with its trimix support, CCR modes, and configurable GF, it is the complete AI package for technical diving. The second transmitter is particularly valuable for sidemount divers running independent cylinders.

AI-Tech2 TransmittersTrimix

Supports dual transmitters for sidemount and stage bottle configurations.

Best AI Smartwatch: Garmin Descent Mk3i + T2

The Mk3i takes AI further than any other computer: up to eight T2 transmitters simultaneously. This is designed for expedition leaders, instructors monitoring students, or technical divers running multiple stage bottles. The T2 transmitter also enables underwater messaging between Mk3i users — a feature unique to Garmin. The AMOLED display shows air data beautifully.

Connects to Mk3i for tank pressure, GTR, and underwater messaging.

Best Suunto AI: Suunto Ocean + Tank POD

The Ocean pairs an AMOLED display with sapphire crystal protection and Suunto's Fused RGBM algorithm. Air integration via the Suunto Tank POD adds tank pressure and GTR to the display. The Ocean's companion app is graphically rich with dive maps and social sharing. For divers in the Suunto ecosystem who want AI in a premium watch-style body, the Ocean delivers.

Suunto Tank POD

Suunto AIWireless Pressure

Wireless tank pressure for the Ocean, D5, and EON Core.

Best Console AI: Oceanic Pro Plus 4.0

Console-style AI is built in — the Pro Plus 4.0 reads tank pressure directly from the HP hose, no wireless transmitter needed. For divers who want AI without the cost of a transmitter, the console approach is the most affordable path. The large display shows all data including a digital compass.

Oceanic Pro Plus 4.0

Hose-mounted AI — no wireless transmitter required. The simplest path to air integration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air integration worth the extra cost?
It depends on your diving style. AI adds convenience — you see tank pressure and gas time remaining on your wrist without reaching for a console gauge. Most divers find it valuable, but it adds $300–$600 for the transmitter. Many experienced divers still carry a console SPG as a backup alongside AI.
Can I add air integration to my existing dive computer?
Only if your computer has AI hardware built in (models with 'TX' or similar AI-ready designation). You cannot add AI to a standard Peregrine, for example. If you think you might want AI eventually, buy the AI-ready variant upfront and add the transmitter later.
